Ladybug
Ladybug, 2O24
Ladybug is a digital artwork created using 3D body scanning and Unity, exploring themes of transformation, protection, and the body's entanglement with nature. Taking inspiration from Ana Mendieta’s silhouette works—where the body becomes a trace, a presence within the landscape—this piece traces a personal metamorphosis. Beginning with a body covered in moss, it transitions through stages of organic change: blooming flowers, devouring fire, soft ash, and finally, an armor of living ladybugs.
These shifting layers evoke cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, drawing from personal associations with nature as a site of both vulnerability and strength. The final emergence of ladybugs speaks to their symbolic connection with femininity in nature—gentle, protective, yet resilient creatures, often seen as omens of luck and guardianship. In this digital ritual, the body becomes both vessel and landscape, echoing Mendieta’s legacy while rooting itself in a contemporary, virtual space of feminine resilience.
