The Main Charcater
Remake of Cindy Sherman
By changing the narrative to how men are stereotypically portrayed in movies, the aim of this remake is to emphasise the inequality between genders displayed in media and pop culture.
From 1977-1980 Cindy Sherman made a series of 69 imaginary black and white B grade films called Untitled Film Series. In these photographs, Sherman depicts herself in archetypal representations of women in the 1950s. The inspiration for this project is taken from more recent films, such as American Psycho, Scarface and James Bond for instance, where men are always portrayed as powerful, strong and fearless while the women are given submissive roles to be dependent on the male character. Sherman's photographs hint to a woman seeking a male figure, but who is the man she's looking for?
