Divine Femininity

Augmented Object

Through using stereotypical feminine craft-making such as sowing and braiding, I wanted to integrate this with the mechanical pieces from a bike break, an object deriving from a male dominated field. These jewellery and accessory pieces are dedicated for women to feel confident, strong, proud and beautiful all at the same time.

Engineering and related mechanical fields have been male-dominated for centuries. In a survey of 250 women engineers, majority said the situation hasn’t improved. In 1970, fewer than 1% of engineering majors were women. By 1979, it rose to 9%, and today, despite progress in gender equality, it has only reached 21%—a figure that has remained unchanged since the early 2000s.
